Uploading Documents
Uploading your documents into Robin's Legal Intelligence Platform is the first step to unlocking AI-powered analysis, search, and insights. Once uploaded, your documents become immediately searchable and ready to use in Tables, Chat, and Search.
Supported File Types
Robin supports the following file formats:
- PDF (.pdf)
- Microsoft Word (.docx)
- Microsoft Word legacy (.doc)
Other file types like Excel, PowerPoint, or emails need to be converted to one of the supported formats before uploading. For best results, convert these files to PDF format.
Upload Documents to Legal Library
- From the left-hand menu, navigate to Documents under Legal Library.
- Click Upload in the top-right corner.
- Select one or more documents from your computer (hold Ctrl or Cmd to select multiple files).
- Choose a Permission Group to control who can access these documents.
- Click Assign & Upload. Your documents will be added to the upload queue.
- Click Uploading & Processing at the top of the page to open the queue and view the progress of your upload. Document uploads status:
- Uploading: File is being transferred
- Processing: Robin is analysing and extracting information from your document
- Uploaded: Document is ready to use and will appear in your Legal Library
- Already Exists: the document is a duplicate and already exists in Robin
- Failed: the document upload failed.
Upload Documents Directly to Tables
When creating a Table, you can upload documents without adding them to your Legal Library:
- While creating or editing a Table, click Add Documents.
- Select Upload from Computer.
- Choose whether to:
- Include in Legal Library: Documents will be saved to your library and available for future use in Robin.
- Only in Table: Documents will only exist within this specific Table.
- Select your files and upload.
Upload Documents Directly to Chat
You can upload documents to a new or existing conversation without adding them to your Legal Library:
- In the Chat window, click the + icon.
- Select Upload from Computer.
- Select your files to upload.
- Choose whether to:
- Include in Legal Library: Documents will be saved to your library and available for future use in Robin.
- Only in Chat: Documents will only exist within this specific conversation.
Troubleshooting Upload Issues
If an upload fails:
- Check that your file is in a supported format (PDF, DOCX, or DOC).
- Ensure the file isn't corrupted or encrypted (try opening it on your computer).
- Delete the failed upload from the queue.
- Try uploading again.
If problems persist, contact Robin’s support team.
Tip: For large document collections, consider uploading in batches of 50-100 documents at a time for optimal performance.
